MODBUS Changes/Development

Anyone else getting annoyed with all these modbus changes being made? Is there actually a thread that can moderate what is being changed/developed or proposed

According to Modbus - Home Assistant there are 508 active MODBUS deployments but am sure there are more that do not have component reporting turned on

So far the following has broken my running config

  • Sensors moved under individule HUB
  • Multiple HUB / sensors not working

Now its “structure” being removed

Just stop and ask the community what they are using, and why
RANT over

Well, I am glad someone is actively working on the Modbus integration. I am sure there were good reasons for changes in config syntax.
And multiple hub / sensor issues are resolved now.

Searching for the label “modbus” in the open PR list in the home assistant core repository will give you a list of proposed changes you can monitor.

https://github.com/home-assistant/core/pulls?q=is%3Apr+label%3A"integration%3A+modbus"+is%3Aopen

At the moment there is one open request.

Yep, not saying its a bad thing, just that the changes are being made without thought for the use other people that use it for

As an example, I use two modbus inverters but seems having multiple devices/hubs was not even a thought for the change that was implemented and broke a lot of configs

Thanks, Will keep an eye on it for future reference as 3 changes so far have broken my config and the “Partner Approval Factor” has taken a knock
Cheers

Not sure I fully understand what you mean, I can only say that I have 2 hubs as well and there was a bug that prevented the second hub from operating properly - this was fixed here.
The developers are not able to test every possible config, so before upgrading, one should always have a clear route to roll back to the previous working version.
If something breaks, I do roll back, and when I have time, rtfm, check the bug reports, and report a problem if needed.
