I moved into a new apartment which has a dumb thermostat. I’m looking to get a smart one which I can control locally with HA.
I don’t want to spend too much. Looking at the cheapest options (Moes BHT002 for example), the starting price seems around 20-25 usd. The most I want to spend is 40-50 usd.
My eye fell on the BHT-009 from Moes. But I can’t find any sources about controlling it locally or flashing custom firmware onto it, what seems to be possible with the BHT-002. I like the knob instead of touch buttons and the “dark theme”. That’s why I like the BHT-009 model. I don’t want the thermostat shine too much light into the room at night.
Any experience with controlling this model LOCALLY with HA?
If not, any suggestions for other options in my price range? I’d prefer WiFi, but if there is no suitable WiFi option, I’d consider Zigbee.
I bought a BHT-009 as I was curious to test the local Matter support.
While the paring was seamless and the thermostat was immediately registered in Home Assistant, I see a few issues:
the current temperature seems to be 1/10th of the real value: e.g. the thermostat reports 19 degrees C on its display, but HA shows 1.9
the set point on HA is also off with respect to the one shown on the thermostat’s display (I can provide examples, but I didn’t notice a clear offset or pattern)
the time on the thermostat is not set at all, starting from 00:00 when it turns on and not synchronizing with the HA time
the heat modes works, off or heat … but there’s no indication of the program (hold, vs program)
So, I’m not sure what should be done to fix these functions, but… it’s definitely not working fine for me out of the box.
Something else to add about my setup; I performed the Matter provisioning directly in HA.
I haven’t yet tried to do the onboarding via the SmartLife app… I may try that next, although I was looking for a fully local solution, only based on HA.
Short update on my side. I received the BHT-009 (WiFi) and used it for a while with Smart Life. But have not found the time yet to implement it in HA. Will send an update when I find the time to tinker with it.
