Monitoring Epson Projector

Hey guys -

so last year I bought an Epson 3700 for my basement - and I love it. It’s awesome, but I have found 1-2 times, it has been left on after use it due the a misfire of the IR repeater. Nothing crazy, but it’s a waste. I’ve since solved this, but it got me thinking about monitoring if the unit was on or off, and I had 2 ideas:

  1. Just get a smart outlet that monitor power consumption.
  2. Use the wifi network connection to monitor the status of the unit

Has anyone tried #2? Any idea on a 3700 what the network module gives? Also, does it have to be Wifi or could i use a USB ethernet adapter. The manual says wifi - but often times its just cause that’s all that is supported.

Thanks!

actually i would believe epson allow control over LAN/wifi. i would check that first.

you cannot use network monitor because i suspect connection always alive even when unit off

HI, I have an epson projector and I monitor its status via the ip address, use device tracker to track your devices, I use the BT hub component all depending on what your router model is.

This updates every minute so theres a slight delay,

I use the Epson u42 projector which has Wifi only,

The device tracker sets up a known devices files in your config folder, identify which ip address it is and give it a friendly name, then you can add this to a groups in your group.yaml to place in the HA front end. I then use an RM mini IR transmitter to wake up the projector.

I have read they are adding a component to support Epson, but there no offical component added as of yet.
