I have 3 different locations and they are tied togheter with a set of subnets (C-class Networks) over IPVPN.
I have Google home devices in all locations, but have no clue on how to get the two remote networks scanned for the Google home devices. How do I connect to the devices on the other subnets? Does anyone have a tip on how to make this work?
Have you tried adding the devices manually? When using the host option the devices don’t need to be discovered, which may be an issue with VPN setups where some types of traffic possibly don’t get forwarded to the remote location.
And just out of curiosity: what exact type of VPN do you mean? By IP-VPN I understand solutions usually found in corporate networks to connect locations with a direct link. So rather different from stuff like OpenVPN or IPsec. Is this really what you are using?
IP-VPN is a subscribed encapsulated network mainly used to tie company offices together. It leaves all the routing and encapsulation issues to the ISP, And the best part is it requires no sync-net.
So, I have 3 networks, in accordance with RFC 1918, which are routed internally. No devices on the other to nets are discovered.
That should be what you need to get the media player entities. What might couse trouble though could be TTS. At least if you use SSL. But that would be another story.
There’s also an important info on that page:
You may need to enable Multicast DNS (MDNS) on your router if you are on a different subnet or VLAN.
thank you for the tip. With the cast: i can speak to google home in location 1, HA in the location 2 reacts and trigger actions in location 1 and location 2. , Perfect!
