I’m on the market for a new phone and would like to get some input on this from the community. I currently have a Huawei phone and its a real pain. It’s like the apple phone of the android world because it make it really difficult to override system settings for battery consumption etc. Every time there is an update it changes settings back to what Huawei thinks they should be etc. As you can imagine this is doesn’t help much for location tracking and other things running when the phone is in your pocket. The Huawei phones REALLY don’t play well with Tasker if any of you have tried. So I’m asking the group. What kind of android phones are you using and how have they been behaving with all this customization that we like to do? How have they been working when the screen is off? How quickly are they connecting to Wi-Fi when you get home? Lets get a discussion going about this.
Not a dev here by any stretch but I have been a fan of the Google phones since I got a Nexus 5. Haven’t own anything but Google since and currently have the Pixel 6 Pro. Love it and have no problems with the HA app on it. Works a treat!
yup ditto, that nexus 5 was incredible I normally update once a year but I did skip the Nexus 6 and Pixel 5…not sure about Pixel 7 but ill prob def get the Pixel Fold if it comes out
If you’re worried about the phone respecting your power management preferences, then I’d advise staying away from Samsung. They have overly aggressive power management which can cause issues with things like notifications.
Aside from a minor “next alarm” sensor snafu when I upgraded to the S21 Ultra I’ve never had any issues with either of my Samsung phones (S8 and S21 Ultra).
I skipped the Pixels 4 and 5 and will quite probably skip the 7 as well. With 3 years of OS upgrades and 5 years of security upgrades, they’ll have to do something amazing to get me to upgrade before the 8 or 9.
