Motion Activated light when switch position if off

Hello hello

I want to make an automation to activate lights based on motion. So far so good. I want to make it so that, using one of those inside wall switches, that automation would only work when the switch is in the off position and when it’s on, it’s on all the time.

I haven’t found any of those switches that report the button position.

Can i do this?

I don’t know a single switch that reports position. Mostly because being smart switches they have to basically have no state unless you interact with it because you might turn the light on or off remotely at which time the physical switch would be out of sync unless it had a complex mechanism to switch itself when state changes off device.

Heck, most devices don’t even report physical v. Logical activation.

Youll probably need another method.
