Movement sensors detect Sliding doors?

Hi,

I have recently installed led strips inside a closet which has two sliding doors, they can be moved to either side of the closet using individual rails.

I am thinking on installing movement sensors for switching them on/off when any door is openned/closed. Mi sensors, Aqara or tradfri sensors are the main choices but they are “smart” and apparently only detect humans. Will they detect doors opening or do I need specific sensors for sliding doors?

Thanks.

Did you look for window sensors? Using EnOcean window sensors around the house, there’s guaranteed to be something similar for Zigbee as well. Just stick one at the inside right behind where the sliding doors meet and glue a wood block to the other side

EDIT: Welcome to the community btw

Thank you for the response and for the welcome! :slightly_smiling_face:

I have thought about door/window sensors but since the closet has 2 doors and they can slide to either side I will need 4 sensors. Also, the doors are overlapped and sensors are not easy to install.

It might be a silly question but are movement sensors not detecting movement of doors? Do you recommend any sensor for this?

Perhaps you can detect light level and trigger on that.
Assuming you don’t wander around in the dark, when you open the closet, more light should get in the closet.
So have a low threshold and start a timer and turn on the lights.

Possible problems is if you don’t close the doors completely and the sensors trigger on light in the room when you don’t want.
