Moving automation from Google home to HA - Change light color without light.turn_on

tl;dr: I have automations set up in Google home to turn my tuya lights to different colors at specific times WITHOUT turning them on, regardless of whether they are on or off. I want home assistant to handle those automations in the same way but it seems it’s impossible and I don’t understand why?

Hello!

To preface, I have a bunch of generic tuya lights of different ‘brands’ and basically have home assistant set up solely for the Adaptive Lighting integration… I’ve dabbled in a couple other simple things in HA since, but my technical knowledge is pretty limited, sorry!

Previous to setting up home assistant and currently, I have ‘routines’ set up in Google home (linked to the smart life app), to change my bedroom and closet lights to gold at 8pm then orange at 9 then red at 10.

It does this whether the light is on or off. So if I turn on my closet light at 9:20pm, it will turn on orange, no brief transition from the previous color to orange, it’s just already orange, even though it was white the last time I had it on.

The routines are initiated from the Google smart speaker in my bedroom and for whatever reason all our smart speakers have been becoming less and less reliable, even just when directly asking it to do something, and the color change routines don’t always work fully anymore, sometimes it misses a couple of lights (regardless of whether those lights are on or off).

So I wanted to stop using Google home and just do those automations in HA, but I don’t see anyway to do it without calling light.turn_on, and everything I’ve read about it online says it’s not possible to change it while it’s off (unless it’s the lifx lights), that it’s a hardware limitation of the lights themselves, but my current tuya bulbs of different generic brands do it just fine with the Google home routine, so I’m just confused about why everything I’ve read says it’s impossible…

Idk if I’m misunderstanding why it would be impossible to do in home assistant versus google home or what…

The google home routine (so far) has never missed all 3 color changes on a light so it’s not like I ever turn on a light expecting it to be red and it’s bright white instead, so it’s not a big if I can’t change it over to HA, but I guess I’m just more curious than anything?

If someone wouldn’t mind trying to explain it to me, or if anyone knows a work around, I would really appreciate it! Thank you for reading!

(p.s. I have an automation set up to turn off the Adaptive Lighting automation before the Google home routines start, in case that’s relevant…)

(Also here’s a screen shot of the Google home routine, I don’t think I have anything relevant to show in home assistant? )
