I will be moving house soon and plan to reformat my computer and start a completely new iteration of Home Assistant. What is the best, or accepted way, to view the data from my current HA without interfering with the new setup?
Depending what data you want to view … if it’s config, yaml, … maybe simple backup from HA and then unzip into a folder where you can check things out.
If you want to see other data, maybe move the current setup into a VM and you can log into it - have full access. I use VMs to test things out as well. Others may have better ideas
Thanks eftimg. The latter sounds like the best option for me. I’ll look into setting that up when the time comes.
Cheers
I would set up proxmox, and install 2 instances of HA. One with your old setup installed, and one with the new setup. Keep the old one switched off till you want to go in and find details of something. Easy to switch on and off without causing issues if they run different IP addresses.
I’m not familiar with Proxmox but will certainly look into it. Thanks for another suggestion.
