Moving to a new case with M.2 Sata adapter

Hi,
I’m oving my HA OS install on a Pi4 to a new home in another case that includes an M.2 Sata adapter board, my current OS lives on a M-Sata drive in a USB to M-Sata adapter case.

I have a 250GB M.2 Sata drive for the case but was wondering the best way to move the system over to the new drive.
Currently the plan is install HA OS from sctratch onto the new drive and restore a Google drive full backup to the new install.
Does this sound the best method or is there a way to clone the current M-Sata drive to the new M.2 Sata drive?

Cheers

Yes that is the best method.

Make sure your power supply has enough power for both your pi and the drive, which will be more demanding than an SD card.

Thanks, I’m using an official pi 3A power supply already so should be OK

No. That’s the problem. The 3A power supply is sufficient for the Pi with an SD card. Adding an SSD will require more power.

I’m currently running with USB M-Sata adapter OK (for a couple of years), does the NVME adapter draw more currnet that that?

:man_shrugging:

I guess you’ll find out.

Just be aware of it if you do have stability issues.
