Multiple Areas for entity/device

I would like to categorize devices/entities into multiple areas.

For example, lets say I have an outlet in my Living Room. I clearly want it in area “Living Room”, but it’s on Circuit H in my house electrical panel. So I’d like to be able to see all the devices on circuit H at once, to know what the power usage is there, or maybe know what I’m going to shut down if I hit hat breaker, etc.

Another example, is that light switch, also turns on a light in the kitchen. So, I would like it to show up in the area “Kitchen” as well.

Or for example, a thermostat, which is physically in the “Hallway”, but realistically, applies to the whole downstairs area of the house. My dream is something like:

Light Switch 7
Areas:

  • Living Room
  • Downstairs
  • Circuit A
  • Lights

And I could find it in all 4 of those areas.

Almost like tags (from a software architecture perspective)

You could use customization to add tags

YES! I love this idea. We really need this in our house.

I just wanted to tag on the end of this.

A lot of this has been achieved with the new labels, however I think there are still use cases for adding devices to multiple areas.
For instance I have a Sonos speaker by my back door, and actually want it to be in the area of the room it is in but also in the area of the garden.

This is because my lights and speakers are tuned on and off by presence detection and area.
