I’ve set up a google nest mini with the onju board and ESPHome, and it is working well. I want to add another mini, and wonder if I need to set this one up differently (other than a different name in ESP). Will they interfere with each other in any way? Do I need to somehow use a different wake word, or assist pipeline? Any advice appreciated.
Besides giving it a different name so it has a different entity_id, I don’t think you need to do anything differently. The only potential issue is the two of them fighting over the wakeword, which I think is going to be it’s own challenge since my guess is that the Google PCB originally in the mini probably had some way to deal with that.
Might be safer to either have them very far from each other if you have a big living space, or to use different wakewords which would require a separate pipeline.
No - Google deal with it on the server end, they analyse the incoming streams to see which one has the best quality audio, and send commands back to the other Google Assistant devices instructing them to stop listening.
There is nothing in hardware to prevent multiple devices activating.
Oh my bad! I would be curious to know if there is anything like that in the works for openwakeword or one of the other wakeword implementations.
They would be far apart, but I may add more later since I had to buy five of the boards from pcbway! I’ll use different names and then see what happens if they’re close together. And yes, I’d like to see openwakeword deal with multiple devices. Thanks.
