I’ve seen some other posts about this, but many of those discussions are old and don’t fit my particular situation.
I’ve currently got an older Savant system that handles audio and video distribution from a central location in the house. When I went down that path, consumer home automation was limited to Z10 devices and systems like Savant and Crestron. Now that I’m easing into more automation with HomeKit, HAOS, and Matter, I’m thinking about the next phase.
Right now the Savant system distributes music through in-ceiling speakers in 7 zones. Some of those rooms can also get video from an Apple TV (signal sent over balun using cat5). I’ve got the ability now to play music from two servers in any combination of rooms.
I’m not opposed to just putting an appleTV in some of the rooms, but I’m wondering if there are home assistant compatible solutions that can re-use what I already have and just replace the Savant equipment. The amp and video distribution system are power-hungry beasts and I’d love to get rid of them and not have to pay for someone else to come make basic changes.
Is here something I can use that’s compatible with HA for audio distribution and possibly video?
Currently along with the Savant Amps/Distribution I have a Sony AVR that handles the living room 7.1 speakers, so whatever music source can go into that.
And what about the audio quality? Have you integrated the XAP800 into Home Assistant?
I would like to build a multiroom audio solution at my home and i am not sure which system to use and how to proceed.
Audio quality is hifi as can be found in the documentation. No need for a integration. You just can add it to HA. I did so anyway. In a thread on this forum i’ve written how to integrate this. (I am on a phone now and looking for the link will loose this message)
Thanks for this. I’ll look into it. It may be a moot point though. I was looking at how I’d control the Sony AVR in the living room and the integration (songpal) in HA doesn’t allow me to set the outputs. I have use both the HDMIA and HDMIB outputs for different sources (so that I can get VRR and Dolby Vision on the correct source). So, until I can figure that out I can’t drop the Savant.
