Is there a way to manually add an Airplay player in MA? For some reason, it is not detecting my Sonos speaker for Airplay, so the “Enable Airplay mode” option is greyed out in the configuration.
Home Assistant also did not auto detect it, but I was able to manually add it without issue via IP address. I don’t see a way to do the same thing in Music Assistant.
@mwaterbu The “some reason” is Sonos removing AirPlay 1 support Sonos - Music Assistant
The models mentioned in the docs is not an exhaustive list.
I am able to use Airplay from Home Assistant though, and the product description lists it as having Airplay 2 compatibility.
As I said it must have AirPlay 1 support. What device is it?
Edit: also have you added the AirPlay provider in MA?
I’m new to MA and still learning. I’ve noticed that the existing filesystem playlists we have in a subdirectory (called 1Playlist so it sits near the top) were detected by MA and processed as long as they used relative paths. However, those playlists are not available in the “add to playlist” function.
I currently have three playlists in the root folder that are just original playlists with the absolute paths stripped out, two original playlists in the 1Playlist folder that have been stripped of absolute paths, and one MA playlist I created as a test. I can play songs from all 6 playlists inside MA, but when I find a track and choose add to playlists, only the three playlists in the root folder and the MA one are given as options.
Is this the expected behavior? Do I need to migrate all of my filesystem playlists to the root music folder?
@tanderson1992 yes I think that is right as if you create a new playlist on your local provider then it is created in the root so most likely that is where the writable ones need to be.
It is an IKEA Symfonisk bookshelf speaker. I guess I thought that having Airplay 2 meant it would be backwards compatible with Airplay 1, but that must not be the case with whatever Sonos has done. So MA only supports Airplay 1, but HA must support Airplay 2, otherwise it shouldn’t be working, but it does work in HA. Sorry for the basic questions, I am still new to Airplay.
Are there plans to implement Airplay 2 in MA?
A related question is whether Airplay 1 and Airplay 2 devices could have audio synchronized in the hypothetical case of support being added to MA.
Yes, and another device (Pioneer/Onkyo AVR) works great through Airplay on MA.
@mwaterbu you can follow this issue Sonos S2 player (Symfonisk) no longer visible since adding Sonos S1 ZonePlayer · Issue #3170 · music-assistant/hass-music-assistant · GitHub
AirPlay 2 has not been reverse engineered so due to that there are no plans to work on it.
Hello everyone
I like this integration - thank you very much
I have a few questions and hope somebody can help me.
A few weeks ago I bought a speaker from Ikea and I was able to integrate it successfully via the Sonsos integration.
Name: Ikea_speaker_1
ID: media_player.ikea_speaker_1
Next, I installed the Music Assistant integration via HACS and I was also able to successfully integrate the speaker there.
The strange thing is that the speaker has the same name, but not the same ID.
Is this normal? Or have I configured something wrong? And since the last HA update, suddenly I have two Music Assistant integrations.
And for the one that is NOT from HACS, nothing is confirgured.
Can I remove this integration?
Thanks and best regards
Buhli
@Buhli If you are happy with MA then remove the Sonos integration from HA and add the Sonos Player Provider in MA. Only use the Home Assistant MediaPlayer provider if there isn’t a native MA player provider.
As a new user I expect you can remove the HACS integration and you will notice no difference. You will then have to configure the core integration.
How best to embed the whole MA 2.0 UI into an already established dashboard?
iframe? Ive tried but because it uses ingress, it shows the sidebar as well.
I tried enabling the web UI in the core settings, using port 8095 but no luck.
I’m having trouble playing anything on Bose Soundtouch 10 speakers (also soundtouch link). Has anyone else got these and MA playing anything. The speakers turn on MA thinks it’s playing on them but watching in the Bose app it displays hmm, can’t play this right now. MA works fine on two separate Denon Amps.
Call me crazy, I didn’t believe it myself.
I love and rely on MA. Newest version of server and integration, 2.4.0b8 using native HA integration on HAOS, newest 2024.12.x version of HA.
Was doing some playing around in the speaker settings, grouping, ungrouping, testing really because a new version pushed today. I was hearing a quiet hiss sound. My SONOS speakers were playing correctly as selected, but this quiet hiss sound at my computer. Unplugged my Google little speaker at my desk, it’s not part of MA but I thought I would try. No different. I listened more closely. The hiss was coming from my HDMI speakers on my Dell monitor, my default output on my Linux Mint system.
So started to play around:
- No music playing → Start MA from the sidebar
- Go into speakers by selecting the little speaker icon on the main screen
- Hiss starts
- Went into speaker select → selected a different one
- Back to main screen. Music plays correctly. Hiss still going.
- Exit MA back to main dashboard → Hiss stops, all good
So tried a different tactic:
- No music playing → Start MA from my default dashboard which has buttons including one for MA as a web card
- Go into speakers by selecting the little speaker icon on the main screen
- No Hiss
Restarted computer. Restarted HA. Tried above. Same result. Then by chance I clicked another button. Settings. Buzz started. Exited to main dashboard it stopped. Started it again from sidebar. Pressed play or browse or whatever, same thing.
What did starting from the sidebar create this audio condition?

Player Group Can’t Delete:
I have a player provider, a grouip that I added at one point, but I was having problems with grouips so I uninstalled Sonos player provider completely, reinstalled it, added the speakers etc. But I can’t get rid of this group player, and I’m nervous to add another one. I don’t know if it’s doing any harm, but the disable button is grayed out and I see no way to remove it. I’m using the new HA native MA integration, but this group was stuck there before I updated.
Try resetting the browser cache. If that doesn’t help reset the app cache at MA SETTINGS >> CORE >> CACHE CONTROLLER
Clearing cache controller made no difference. Appears in all browsers and in the companion app on Android phone
