I have home assistant core 2025.7.1 (docker version) installed on Synology NAS container. I have a lot of music mp3 files stored on NAS and have a few IP speakers. Just read some info regarding music assistant add-on. Wondering if it is worth to install? How to install? Need install music assistant server first?
HA’s MA integration is only for controlling MA server.
MA server handle the actual playing of the music.
Yep, its great. I have used it since the first betas.
It’s an excellent server add-on. Fair warning: the device you host it on (probably as a Home Assistant Add-on) needs a processor that can handle AVX for transcoding. Older devices around 10+ years old may not be able to use it.
I did not know that “requirement”, but a newer NAS could also be challenged with this requirement.
True, but most (if not all?) modern processors can handle AVX, as it’s pretty standard now due to all the Music streaming and ripping that goes on.
That warning about older devices not working is in Music Assistant’s wiki.
EDIT: Music Assistant Add-on v2.3.6 is that last version that didn’t need AVX support.
