I just received an email from the folks at MuteSync that they’re merging with MuteMe.
I took a look at MuteMe and it seems like a powerful system for keeping system and app mic status in sync. However, MuteSync has an HA integration, while MuteMe does not. So with the MuteMe app, I can no longer see in HA whether my system is muted.
I’ve already reached out to their support email asking about this (I’m sure hearing from more people about this would make it more likely to happen).
Anyone have any suggestions for ways to surface windows mic status in Home Assistant? I’ve already tried HAAS.Agent in the past, and it does exactly what I’d want. However, it would at least once a week suck up my entire CPU without any warning, requiring manually restarting the app.
Any other MuteSync customers out there using the integration? What are you planning to do?
Edit: Fast response from MuteMe - this is in their roadmap but not currently in development. They prioritize based on customer requests, so if you’re interested in this please email them and ask for Home Assistant integration or MQTT support.
I use the MuteSync integration currently, and was wondering the same thing. I just found this post while searching for a MuteMe integration. I’ll email them with the request too.
I did the same thing and reached out to MuteMe hoping they can introduce some kind of development with this feature. I have been very reliant on the local integration for years now.
I estimate that I’ve logged some 5,000+ hours worth of meetings in the last few years with my mütesync button and Home Assistant integration. It’s a key piece of functionality for me to control my lights (that I’d often forget to turn off).
Monitoring my mic for meeting status wasn’t a good enough solution for me because it’s almost always live due to some of my work. (and other solutions like custom extensions are difficult to get approval for on my work machine).
I’ve contacted them too. An ideal solution would be for someone to develop a standalone desktop client that mimics mutesync’s functionality and isn’t tied to a commercial entity, but it’d be a lot of work. Hopefully MuteMe will support us, but there won’t be much incentive for them to do so given that many of us are using mutesync without having purchased their hardware.
After MuteMe announced “The current MuteMe software now fully supports MuteSync devices”, I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately I can find no integration options in the UI. So, I too contacted their support.
I really hope the can be convinced to support integrations in the future. Although, as craigrouse said, there’s understandably little interest for them to develop something that will probably bring no extra revenue.
I could consider spending $20 for the MuteMe Mini if that would guarantee software updates as meeting platforms keep changing. But while Home Assistant isn’t supported, I’ll jus tkeep using MuteSync as long as it works.
I’m in the same boat. I reached out to MuteMe a few weeks ago and got a response saying the feature was on the development roadmap to look into, but I didn’t think too much of it as that’s what companies usually say! But today I received a follow up email from MuteMe talking about how they are actively exploring options for how to make a Home Assistant integration commercially viable, given that most of the users of the existing MuteSync integration aren’t paying MuteMe customers.
I’ve replied to them suggesting that if they exposed a local API in their MuteMe software, similar to how MuteSync does, then the HA community (including myself) could write and maintain the Home Assistant integration to use this local API, meaning MuteMe wouldn’t have to maintain the HA portion themselves. Additionally, MuteMe could then use this local API for any other product integrations they were looking in to, not just Home Assistant. So hopefully that approach would keep the cost as low as possible from their perspective, and would give an equivalent experience to the existing MuteSync integration for Home Assistant.
I’ll update here if I hear back from them at all - fingers crossed!
I have received an email from them asking if I would be interested in joining a premium subscription service to get access to the Home Assistant integration. Seems like a bad omen as this is obviously entirely against the ethos of home assistant, and there would be no ongoing costs associated to them, especially if they exposed a local API to HA.
