Free for four days: my 600-page Home Assistant book (English and German)
Hi everyone,
For years I have been reading along here, picking up fixes, ideas and whole automations from people who took the time to explain things. This is my way of giving something back.
I wrote “Home Assistant: The Master Handbook”, almost 600 pages, and from October 12 to 15 the Kindle edition is free, in English and in the original German:
Free from: 12. October to 15th October
English: Amazon.com: Home Assistant: The Master Handbook: From First Steps to AI-Powered Home Automation (German Edition) eBook : Giehl, Thomas: Kindle Store
German: Home Assistant: Das Masterhandbuch: Von den ersten Schritten bis zur KI-gestützten Hausautomation eBook : Giehl, Thomas: Amazon.de: Kindle Store
What’s inside:
- From the first device through Zigbee, Matter, Thread and ESPHome to heating, solar surplus, home batteries and EV charging, all reproduced on a demo install running 2026.10
- AI integration done carefully: Assist, local voice, and Claude working directly with Home Assistant through MCP, with impact reports, approvals and an emergency brake, so it doesn’t break your house
- A free AI Companion for Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot that walks you through each chapter and applies it to your own home
- And my favorite part: “Silly Beginner Mistakes!”, about 200 of the classic traps, sorted by chapter, each with how you notice it and how to fix it. You will recognize a few. I certainly did.
If you grab a copy, an honest review would mean a lot, critical ones very much included. Mistakes and missing topics go straight into the next version.
Thanks for everything I’ve learned here.
Thomas
