This week I finally mounted my tablet to the wall With the help of mbmounts.com my Lenovo Tab M10 Gen 3 tablet hangs nicely tight against the wall. The flat USB cable is cleverly hidden behind the tablet.
Before I mounted my tablet to the wall, it sat on the kitchen counter for quite some time. I took my time to tweak the dashboard to make it logical and intuitive to use. But also to get my wife used to such a (touch)device in the kitchen. I don’t know about your partner, mine still preferred to use a physical button But once she got used to it and started to see the benefit, it was time to give the tablet a more prominent place. The spot where my wired thermostat used to be became available and I could use the existing cable to power my tablet.
I largely used standard buttons and graphs to organize my Lovelace dashboard. A number of buttons were made using custom button card. I have combined smart automations with some physical buttons for direct control. I am still looking for the right balance between automations and my dashboard.Because let’s face it, Home Automation is all about how to make your home smart, without the need for a physical action.
Anyway… for now I’m happy. (my wife too) My thanks go to the DEV team of Home Assistant for their inexhaustible drive to build the most beautiful open source smart home platform in the world. But my thanks also go to you! Fellow enthusiasts from whom I learn a lot. Thanks!
