I have two RM4 minis, I use them with my local homeassistant instance. Those are working ok, measure the temperature, humidity and the infra remote function is ok as well.
If I disable the internet access of them they continue working with my local homeassistant server but then after a couple of hours (sometimes 1-2 days) my whole local network stops working. No internet access from wifi nor from my LAN I’m sure there is an issue with the RM4 minis because the problem occurs only if I connect them to my wifi.
I already read these topics but I found no solution (I already read a couple more but the forum let me insert only 2 links saying I’m a new user…).
The RM4 does not need access to the internet for use with HA. It should not be necessary to block it - when you do the original setup you should stop as soon as you have an IP address for the device, so there is no associated account or app.
First I configured the RM4 mini device with the Broadlink app on an Android phone. I didn’t know it is a problem since I have an old RM Pro which was configured that way and that has been working well for years even though the internet access is disabled for that on my local network. So after using the Broadlink app and having issues I reset the RM4 mini and configured the wifi network with this method:
I reset my RM4 mini device and a new WIFI SSID was created by that
I connected to this wifi network with my laptop.
I used this command to configure the wifi: python3 broadlink_cli --joinwifi mySSID myWIFIPWD
Then the rm4 mini connected via mySSID to the homeassistant instance
But the issue still exists. So after a couple of hours, days, my whole local network stops working. If I reset my router it doesn’t help. The only thing which helps is if I turn off the RM4 mini and then reset my router.
This is a known issue. Currently, someone needs to reverse engineer the latest firmware (and also find a dump) which doesn’t support python-broadlink cloud ping as they changed methodology / keys.
I’m not sure that is the same issue. I have two Broadlink RM4 minis and yes, those reconnect periodically but that works without any issue. But after a certain time, for example 6 hours, my router stops working and the only way to have internet access again is if I power down and then restart. This issue is because of the RM4 minis because there is no such issue without them.
Hi, I’m wondering if this is still a problem?
I recently bought a RM4 mini, and I noticed that it constantly (every 10s) tries to access the internet, although the device hasn’t been setup via the app (it has been setup via python-broadlink):
I don’t know but in my case this issue was permament, I mean if I used one or two broadlink RM4 mini on my home network then after a certain time (30 min-3 days) the whole network stopped and only router switch off-on helped.
I have an old version of broadlink RM pro and that doesn’t cause any issue.
So I decided to sell my broadlink RM4 mini devices and I don’t ever want to buy any kind of broadlink device in the future.
TBH, this sounds like a networking issue over broadlink. I have all mine in an isolated IOT vlan with only access to NTP servers and HA, no problems what-so-ever.
