Hey,
not really a feature request, more like a service request.
I recently switched to HomeAssistant because the frontend looks awesome, I’m not a big java fan and it’s not as “heavy” as openHab. However, I’m really missing the myopenhab option they provide, since I’m not able to expose my homeassistant instance to the web. For most stuff it’s not a problem, since I don’t really need access from outside, but sadly some services only work with public endpoints (e.g. api.ai).
Is there something like this available in HomeAssistant?
If not, I would love to see something like this coming to HomeAssistant (maybe with a small subscription fee per month)
Do you mean that you can’t expose your instance because your ISP blocks port 80? Or is there some other reason?
No, because I have no configuration rights to the router.
Ah ok. Well without the ability to forward ports I’m not sure how you could get external access to HASS. The only way I’ve seen this done is by forwarding a port on a router to the machine running HASS on your internal network.
There are several possibilities to grant access to the local HA instance without portforwarding.
One option is TOR hidden services, another would be something like the myopenhab service.
I tried the TOR service, and it’s working really good for normal access. But it’s not working for the api.ai service since you’ve to be connected to the onion network.
I am missing this too. It enables easy install of google assistant and push notifications.
