Hi
I seem to be spending a lot of time searching for devices that can be converted to run ESPHome and/or work with HA without using a cloud interface.

So to keep Home Assistant funded, why doesn’t Nabu Casa develop and sell items that run on ESPHOME? As I see it, most Tuya devices are being rebranded by multiply companies already so let’s start a Home Assistant brand.

Currently, I’m in the market for wifi smoke detector that I can monitor with Home Assistant. No solution. Also hunting for wifi motion wall switches, but only am finding Tuya devices which I’ll have to convert to ESPHOME in order to remove the Tuya cloud,. Wouldn’t it be easier to shop at the Home Assistant store and get something that’s “Ready for Home Assistant”.

Would love to know what others think?

Easier for you, but not Home Assistant. You wouldn’t want to pay the price for them to not realize a loss with every sale, not to mention the liability they would be assuming.

If you want to avoid flashing ESPHome, there are Athom WiFi switches with ESPHome already flashed. Or buy Zigbee or Z-Wave devices- no flashing required.
