Quick question, I already have Nginx setup, along with my own domain. I’m looking to get Alexa working and it looks like Nabu Casa is the way to go. However, I’d like to continue using my current remote setup, so my question is can I disable the remote stuff and just use Nabu Casa for Alexa?
I did not specifically test with Nginx, but last week, I tested with setting up a CloudFlare tunnel to remotely access HA. It worked but I lost Alexa and Google from the list of Voice Assistants. I reverted back to using Nabu Casa. Even though I left the tunnel in place, it was not being used. So, I ended up deleting it and undoing the tunnel setup in HA.
The way I did it was log out of cloud in Home Assistant Cloud setting and then use the tunnel. When I logged back into Nabu Casa (after suffering a defeat), I switched to the option of “Use Home Assistant Cloud” for Internet URL. Otherwise, Alexa and Google refused to come back. Once I switched the internet URL to HA Cloud, I could not access HA over internet using the tunnel even though tunnel was showing Healthy. So, what’s the point of keeping it, I thought and deleted it as a security measure. Why leave something unused in place for hackers to tinker with? I just documented the steps to create it.
I am not an expert on remote access, so cannot say this with any authority, but it is based on whatever I tested. Hope this helps.
Did you have any luck with this?
I use HA via a cloudflare tunnel and want to keep it that way for additional features like fail2ban.
I’ve signed up for nabu casa for google assistant integration but can’t get it to link at all.
Yes, I left my remote settings as I had them, using my own domain and Nginx. I setup up Nabu Casa and left remote control turned off, don’t think I did anything else. Then I enabled voice assistant and everything works as expected on Alexa and Google.
