Naming of devices, best practices

Hi all.

i am not sure this post fits in here so please move it if i have posted in the wrong “area”

so my problem is that i have used a naming scheme that for me worked perfect right up until i wanted to use Home assistant Voice. now i am f…

The voice assistant can find any of my devices.
i am thinking of starting all over but i need some tips and suggestions on how to make this perfect

today it can look like this.
room-brand or function-type-number

LIV-BEL-IKEA-DIM-01 Livingroom lights ikea dimmer 01
LIV-BEL-SW-01 Livingroom lights switch 01
LIV-BEL-TAK-01 Living room lights roof 01
GARAGE-BEL-TAK-01 Garage lights roof 01
STAIR-VIB-DOWN-01 Stairs vibration sensor down 01
and so on.

super simple when making automations or using Nodered. i dont need to remember a stupid name just, where is it located, function and number more or less.

but again this is not working when trying to use Voice.

How should i do instead?
any suggestions ?

I don’t use voice, but you should be able to set an Alias for voice on any entity without needing to modify the entity itself.

It might take you a while to go through all your devices, but it’s a one time job.
