I’m looking for recommendations on an Android tablet that can be wall-mounted and powered 24/7 for use as a smart home dashboard. The tablet will primarily display information and control smart home devices.
Requirements:
Android OS (not iOS or Windows) Large touchscreen (10”+ preferred) Can stay plugged in 24/7 without battery issues Wall-mountable (ideally with a flush or magnetic mount) Good performance for smooth operation of smart home apps (Home Assistant, Google Home, etc.)
Additional Preferences (if possible):
USB-C power or PoE support for clean installation Slim design to look good on the wall Good screen brightness for readability in different lighting
I’d also appreciate suggestions on wall mounts and cable management solutions to keep the setup clean and professional.
Don’t feel you have to buy a new one. There are lots of companies selling reconditioned tablets and if you’re using Android it doesn’t have to be the latest version (I have two Nexus tablets running Android 7 with Fully Kiosk).
You can get very cheap ones to experiment with if you don’t mind them looking a bit rough.
Previous gen Samsung or Lenovo. Used. If you can find one, Lenovo do a battery less tablet called the K10 which works well. eBay is your best option.
Something recent has built in battery protection.
Look on Ali Express for Industrial tablets. These will often be POE, no battery and you can have pretty much any size you like.
Use Fully Kiosk, the paid version to control them via HA.
My main concern is that after my home renovation, when I mount the tablet on the wall, it should work smoothly and remain powered 24/7 without any issues. If I keep a regular tablet constantly plugged in, the battery may degrade over time, potentially causing problems with the device. That’s why I’m wondering if there are any tablets that can operate without a battery, are wall-mountable, and are designed to run on constant power without issues.
I’ll check out the Lenovo K10—seems like a great option since it’s battery-less. I’ll also look into industrial tablets on AliExpress, as having PoE and no battery would be ideal for my setup.
My main concern is ensuring the tablet can stay powered 24/7 without battery issues, so I appreciate the info on built-in battery protection for newer models.
I’ll also look into Fully Kiosk for better control via Home Assistant. Thanks again for the advice!
Thanks for the warning! That’s definitely something to keep in mind. I was considering Samsung as an option, but if unlocking the bootloader becomes an issue, it might not be ideal for long-term flexibility.
I’ll focus more on Lenovo K10 or industrial tablets instead. Appreciate the insight!
