Need help or alternative to Remote Home Assistant - Spent many hours, nothing works

I need to get something like Remote Home Assistant to work, but I’ve spent about 10 hours doing everything I can to get it to work when it should take 15 minutes. I’ve posted for help and haven’t received any. I don’t know what to do, but I need to be able to make 2 instances of HA, on our LAN, but in different buildings, to work as if they’re one, so it’s easy for my family members to handle it without having to switch between different servers when they use the HA app on their phones.

At this point, I’m just fed up and tired and wondering why something basic isn’t behaving. And, as I said, I’m getting no help, so, please, if you can help with one of these:

  1. Where should I go to get help with Remote Home Assistant? I know it’s a custom component, but there has to be someone here or there has to be a place to go. I’ve been to the RHA page on GitHub and posted there, but nobody has been on the forum there since 2018.

  2. What can I use instead of RHA that is known to install easily and work transparently?

  3. One time I added RHA on the system I want to use as remote and it asked me if it was the remote system. It’s done that ONE time. I have created numerous HA images for my Pi and put them in the remote system. (I want to be sure I’m starting from scratch, but I’ve also deleted the files and removed RHA from HACS - don’t know if that makes a clean removal or not.) And, except for ONE time, RHA always goes directly to the config options for the main system - so apparently there’s no way, unless it’s in the right mood, to say, “This is the remote system.”

  4. Where are logs for RHA? Where can I find out why a main system is not connecting with the remote system? The only error it gives is that it failed to connect.

If they’re both on the same LAN, why do you need two instances?

Yes. Two buildings. The barn is over 300’ from the house, through a heavily wooded area. There is no way to keep them on the same wifi and I need separate controllers for Z-Wave and Insteon or any other wireless control systems for each building.

Previously I tried ZWaveJS2MQTT and it worked, but then I reached a point where I wanted to use more than ZWave in the barn, so I need to replace that older system with a 2nd HA instance.

GH looks pretty active to me… Waited long enough? Asked in a clear way?

With 50 forks i’d see if there is another as active or with recent commits and try there too.

Where should I be asking?

I got about 5 hours of sleep last night and I’m up at 4:30 again, because this is the only time I can work on this. I’m tired, I’m exhausted, so I could easily be missing where I should be posting on Remote Home Assistant as a project. No, I haven’t waited long. If I can’t get this fixed at this point, it’s either more late nights or wait a good while before I can get back to this. (I’m dealing with this and, for some reason, the Z Wave integration would install, either - on a Pi where it had installed on a previous image so, honestly, I’m just overtired and trying to get SOMETHING to work at this point after 2 long nights.)
