Nest Away and Broadlink

Hi All,

I am ready to become a family member all these amazing things I have heard about Home assistant. Now all I want is clearance on expectations.

What I would love to use home assistant for is this scenario:

IF: Nest thermostat set to away mode AND sunset has passed. THEN turn on lights (via Broadlink) ELSE leave lights turned off

Is this possible cause during a search I only found that this can be set manual? And I love the away tool because it’s automatic.

I don’t have nest but I do have tado and use the geolocation for almost exactly the same thing ie when my tado knows I’ve arrived and it’s 45mins before sunset then turn on the kitchen lights. (This was via broadlink).

The only issue I see is that because broadlink is rf it has no confirmation of the current state of the light. You can use an assumed state I think but this can get out of sync in places where people might override by using the pesky light switch manually (Damn those technophobes )

I switched to a sonoff switch in my kitchen for this reason.

Anyway what you want is certainly possible and one of the reasons I switched to home assistant a couple of months ago. It really is great and integrates everything perfectly. I still have broadlink and use it elsewhere in the house with no issue
