No need to delete/reinstall. if you got it to complete the integration setup then the credentials should all be working fine. The logs should have more details about what is going wrong, especially if you turn up debug logging

Looks similar to Nest Integration Error: Error setting HVAC mode: "Error from API: 500: INTERNAL: Internal error encountered.: Internal Server Error" · Issue #74208 · home-assistant/core · GitHub – integration is working but the devices call is failing for some reason. I have seem this kind of thing get stuck when accounts are in a weird state due to some kind of prior nest account migration, or getting unstick when messing around with the “home” on the google side.

do I change my e-mail address in the nest site then recreate the credentials? the e-mail I am using was migrated from nest to google but maybe its my whole account not just the e-mail address?

I’m being vague because don’t know the answer.

An example of some things to try:

ensure everything works in Google Home App
try moving devices between rooms
remove all devices from the home, and re add them
create a new home and move devices to it and authorize that home with home assistant
delete the homes and recreate the home, then readd the devices to the home
file an issue with Google support similar to others mentioned in some of those bugs. I’ve seen a ticket where other users have reported a similar ticket

The error is similar to this issue Google Issue Tracker under google SDM support tickets where the /devices URL is not working. If none of the above works, you can post something in that issue and work with Google Support on getting to the bottom of it. Sometimes it helps to share a private google doc with them with the raw request logs and details about your account (e.g. your gmail address, timestamps/timezones when the reuqests were made, etc)

all of that sounds pretty awful to do considering, I have 6 cameras, 2 thermostats and 4 temperatures sensors. you can’t just “move” them you have to delete then set them up again which means, for me getting on ladders to physically reach the cameras.

where do I get the request logs? looking at the issue tracker, well that’s is over my head.

I did have a “second” home setup in my account which I just deleted with the Google Home app.

I do appreciate any suggestions you’ve given me.

SOLVED. After spending hours with Google Nest support, it seems like this was fallout from my Nest account migration from Nest to Google AND multiple household members. I migrated my nest account to a alt google account that was a household member of my main/primary Google account. When I attempted to remove that household member (unsuccessfully), it instead unregistered all Nest devices (reset them back to setup mode), and left “phantom” devices on my main/primary account. Support helped me to get that alt google account removed from Home, and reset everything including removing the phantom devices. The Nest HA integration now works.
After going through “contact us” on the Google Nest Help site, you get the phone number 1-855-469-6378

By request logs, i just mean what you just pasted with the “request”, “response” lines plus an error message are what you need. It is odd though since the actual error message "Internal Server Error” isn’t shown anywhere so not sure where you got that but thats the response from the “/devices” line.

But anyway, I posted what you said above at Google Issue Tracker on your behalf.

when I log into my Google Account to see my subscriptions, I get this message at the bottom.

So I chatted with Nest Aware support. They tell me my account has been migrated however, they said this

I see that you have 1st gen Subscription and 2nd Gen subscription in this account. To find the 2nd Gen subscription please access the below link: https://store.google.com/us/subscriptions

they tried to delete the 1st generation subscription and could not so they have to escalate it. Maybe that is why I’m getting the “Migration in progress” message still, something is hung up.

They said it will take 1-2 business days, I’ll report back once I hear from them or notice that message is gone.

I have spent 4 hrs online with “tech support” they tell me there is nothing wrong with my account. They deleted the old subscription but that didn’t make a difference. their support is awful. each level asked me the same questions over and over and they all had the same robotic responses.

They sent me this to read which did nothing for me.

I can see my devices in the Nest App and the Google Home app

I tried to create a new account and add one of my cameras to it. The issue is, I have 1st gen cameras and after Nov 29, 23 you can no longer have a new account with 1st gen cameras in the Google Home app.

I feel like I’m stuck

ok, you confused me. Did you mean to say the Google issue tracker instead of github? other than what you posted, i would not know what to post there.

I can see where you posted in there but there is no response yet. In my setup, I only have 1 user(me) and 1 home. When I go into the “partner connections manager” i can see my devises there and grant the permissions.

I tried moving a device to a different room, no luck there.

If I create a new home, it requires a separate / new subscription. i cannot migrate to a new account either.

I just received today an email from Google (they must be really hungry for money!)

We’re writing to inform you about a change to Cloud Pub/Sub message retention pricing, effective June 30, 2024. Starting on that date, we’ll begin charging for storing unacknowledged messages in subscriptions beyond the first 24 hours. Currently, there’s no charge for this within the default seven-day message retention period.

You won’t incur any new charges if:

Messages are processed within 24 hours.

Unacknowledged messages older than 24 hours are already retained through Topic Retention.

Please note that storage costs of $0.27 per GB-month will be charged after the first 24 hours (similar to other Pub/Sub storage offerings).

What do you need to know?

Starting June 30, 2024, customers will begin to incur charges for retaining unacknowledged messages with subscriptions for more than 24 hours. If you are able to process the messages within this time, you will not see any new storage charges.

What do you need to do?

Unacknowledged messages can result from idle subscriptions, backup needs, or slow processing. Avoid new charges by managing these scenarios as follows:

Idle subscriptions - Delete idle subscriptions to avoid incurring subscription message retention charges.

Backup storage - If you are using subscription retention as backup storage, you can enable an official storage option such Topic Retention or Retained Acknowledged Messages. For instance, Topic Retention will store messages just once at the topic level and they will remain available for all the subscriptions to consume when needed.

Processing delays - Add more subscribers (if possible) to process the messages within a day.

Please note, the default message retention period remains seven days. You will only incur charges for unacknowledged messages that are stored with the subscription beyond 24 hours of publication.

@allenporter, I want to ask if the messages in the Nest integration are acknowledged according Google requires it? And how this can be confirmed?

I saw this email as well and was worried everyone using nest with home assistant will get an email like this. No need to worry.

The default retention period for subscriptions created by nest is 15 minutes (code)

Have a look near the bottom of Google Nest - Home Assistant which has a link to the cloud console for pubsub subscriptions so you can verify yourself.

Some users may have manually created the subscription with different settings and so that’s up to them to figure out what they want to do about it.

So I gave this one more shot. I had to create a new account, remove all of my devices from the old account, now I’m adding them back to my new account. There must be some issue with my original migrated account. I was able to add a thermostat and camera to HA. Once this integration is setup, how do I add another device to it?

Next question. I have to instances of HA in two different homes. do I need to setup two different credentials?

All homes and devices on the same Google account? No you don’t need credentials. During the oauth process you can select the other home though the UI is weird/confusing. You can select devices from multiple homes and turn off what you don’t want added.

Edit: this matches my expectations that the account is setup weird. Unfortunate support couldn’t get it fixed for you.

yes ,all devices are configured in 1 home, in 1 account. physically, they are not in the same home.

I guess my main question was can I use the same credentials twice.

I wasted a lot of time with Google and got nowhere to fix my account they kept saying it was fine.

so I have broken my integration. I added a camera to my account now it fails.

I tried to delete it set it up again with no success. I don’t see anything in the logs.

when I hover over the “setup failed” it says internal server error 500
