Nest Thermostats and Ring Doorbells

I know Nest thermostats and Ring doorbells have discontinued 3rd party integration with their devices… Has anyone been able to do anything with these devices in HA?

Ring works just fine, there’s an intergration for it: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/ring/. I get notifications on motion and when the doorbell rings, as well as having the doorbell image on one of my Lovelace tabs.

That said, if I had to do it again I probably wouldn’t buy a Ring. I’m not happy with their security issues and I no longer purchase anything that only works with the cloud. We had a break-in just over a year ago and have no video from the Ring. Something else in the house was using enough bandwidth that the doorbell couldn’t upload it’s video to the cloud. Meanwhile, my BlueIris system captured enough high-quality video that the police were able to arrest both individuals involved and I believe it helped in their conviction.

As far as Nest goes, it depends when you signed up. If you bought yours before they got absorbed by Google, and if you still use the original Nest account (rather than the Google one they want you to migrate to) you may still have some control over the thermostat. I have several Wireless Tags on doors and windows, and the Wireless Tag hub treats Nest as just another tag - the HA integration creates sensor entities for temperature (obviously), humidity and movement, you can control temperature via Lovelace, and you can set the Nest system to Home or Away by triggering events via IFTTT. A bit fiddly to set up, but very reliable so far.

Don’t know how long this state of affairs will continue for, though. I don’t imagine Google will tolerate it for ever and Wireless Tags are a small outfit who may be vulnerable in an economic downturn.
