Netgear integration with Nighthawk MR80

Hello! I’ve been using HA for a fairly short time but have had a great experience with it, including powering through the roadblocks, sometimes with the help of this forum. I’ve hit a wall I can’t seem to find a way past this time, though.

After a recent Core and Supervisor update, I got a notification that HA discovered a Netgear device. OK, that would be my router, a Nighthawk MR80, and I didn’t know about that integration. Cool!

If I click “Configure” in the blue “Discovered” box in integrations, it comes up with a dialog with the following.
Default host: 192.168.1.1 (OK, standard router stuff)
Default port: 56688 (No idea where this comes from!)
Default username: admin (More standard stuff)
And then username and password fields.

If I enter username/password and try with those settings, I get the error “Connection or login error: please check your configuration”.

I’ve tried creating a new instance of the Netgear integration with host as 192.168.1.1 and port set to 80 (I usually access the router settings by accessing 192.168.1.1 in a browser, so it seemed worth a try) and instead of “Connection or login error: please check your configuration”, I get a different error, simply “Unknown error occurred”.

If I check the log, I find that the port 56688 configuration produces “[pynetgear] Invalid response”, while trying with port 80 produces “[pynetgear] Error talking to API”.

Anyone know what I’m doing wrong? Or is the MR80 possibly not supported by the integration?

Thanks!

Edit: I should mention, Home Assistant OS 6.4 running in Virtualbox, supervisor-2021.10.0, core-2021.10.2.

I’m on the same boat (sort of).

Since I installed HA 2021.10.0, I have this Netgear integration for my Orbi RBR50 (+1 satellite) that has been discovered.
I don’t know where that port 5555 comes from (instead of 80) and my Netgear password does not work :man_shrugging:
I have no clue to what to do from there…

I think it must be a bug. Same here for R7800.

If you set it up manually (i.e. ignore the found device and add the Netgear integration yourself), you can enter the port number 80 and it works.

Note that you must be running at least version 2021.10.2, otherwise there is a bug that prevents even this from working for more than a few hours.

I do run 2021.10.2 and reinstalled the Netgear integration.
I typed the IP address and the credentials that do work in my browser. Here they don’t pass

I noticed I already had a RBR50 Upnp integration.
I don’t use it actually and I wonder what features the Netgear integration brings to the table.

I’m afraid, even on 2021.10.2, setting up manually and specifying Port 80 gives me “Unknown error occurred”.

This is different from the error I get when I try it with the found device, which is the same “Connection or login error” etc. that Jerome gets.

I really wonder if my hardware just doesn’t play nice with the integration. The MR80 is a fairly new router model (early 2021 release, I think) and may have quirks unaccounted for.

The Netgear integration works fine now since 2021.10.4 with my RBR50

Doesn’t work on my Nighthawk LAX20 router either.

This integration was working for me, then started reporting errors earlier today. Now I’m getting this:

Running on the following:
Home Assistant 2022.7.7
Supervisor 2022.07.0
Operating System 8.4
Frontend 20220707.1 - latest

Did you guys have your HAs set up before using the night hawk? I can’t get mine to install and apparently it’s cuz of the router. I have an ac2600 and unfortunately I saw openwrt works but doesn’t support mine

Hey, sorry, I haven’t been around the forum for a while until yesterday. I’ve set up HA both before and after (for a rebuild) getting the MR80. It went similarly both ways. I don’t know anything about the specific problem you’re having but I can tell you setting up HA behind a Netgear MR80 is definitely possible. Never got this integration working, though.

I have the same issue, I have an older Netgear router set up as AP, it is discovered but does not integrate. Anny suggestions?
