Hi everyone,
For those who are very concerned about privacy and do not want to expose their IP to the external world (such as Syncthing servers), I’d like to introduce a new very simple add-on for Home Assistant that might be of interest – Syncthing Relay and Discovery for HA. The add-on’s repository is available on GitHub: BartRuSec/syncthing-utils-ha-addons.
What is Syncthing?
For those unfamiliar, Syncthing is an open-source, peer-to-peer file synchronization tool that allows for secure data transfer between devices without the use of cloud storage
Features of the Add-on:
- Relay: Run your own relay server on your network
- Discovery: Manage a local discovery server. Please be aware that if you configure your devices to use your own discovery server you will not be able to find the devices others that those which are connected to your own discovery.
Why Use It?
- Full control over your Syncthing infrastructure – without relying on external servers.
- Increased privacy – your IP and connection log data stays within your network.
This is my first addon (and first topic as well) for HA so I am fully open for any feedback. I hope this add-on will be helpful for those who need more control over their Syncthing infrastructure.
Feel free to test it out and share your thoughts!
Best regards,
BartRuSec
