ESP32 device is detected loally connected on USB using webesp, “prepare for first use” succeeds then get “An error occurred. Improv Wi-Fi Serial not detected”. I havent programmed one for a while but it used to work and now I have two new different ESP32 devices, each from different manufacturers and I get this on both.I have tried on both a Windows 10 laptop and a Mac ( Ventura 13.4.1 ).
the solution “Plug into the computer running esphome dashboard” is an inconvenient workaround. The web utility should work. In my case, I have Esphome running under Dietpi in a Debian container on a Windows 10 box. So there are shenanigans required.
Is there a Github repository I could report it to?
Came here with the same issue - after sucessfully uploading by “PREPARE FOR FISRST USE” to esp32-s3 I had same “An error occurred. Improv Wi-Fi Serial not detected”. Maybe that’s because device was in ‘boot’ mode (I had to kick it by pressing Boot while powering up my usb cord). After I turned off device from usb then plugged in again - I did once more “PREPARE FOR FISRST USE” - and after sucessfull installation it finally asked me for WiFI name and creds.
