First of all: Great work! And I’m very impressed by this product. There are so much details and potentials for future development. I’m excited to see it grow!
But now I am somewhat ambivalent. On the one hand, I find it great that, after years of waiting, we now have at least two options. On the other hand, I wonder if it wouldn’t be better to pool our efforts.
What especially concerns me is the thought that the software might develop in different directions. Hardware is ultimately interchangeable, and there are various environments where different hardware makes sense.
But with software, I see the risk that complexity will significantly increase in the future and that the Open Home community will face growing competition from the major platform monopolists. Especially in the context of AI-driven systems, scale (data volumes) plays a crucial role.
If all of this is just unfounded concern, I’ll be glad and reassured. But do you understand what I mean?
@sfreund You should watch the Home Assistant Launch video from a couple days ago. This is EXACTLY what they want. They are not in the business of building hardware.
