Hi guys, I am used to home assistant in canada.
I was wondering how it works in europe. I would like to have a new install and change light switches in europe with smart switches. Which ones you recommend to use with home assistant? Zigbee? Zwave? Any recommendation is appreciated.
thank you.
I use Zigbee Sonoff mini’s behind my wall switches.
Europe is still a bit split up on the market for electric fixtures due to historical national rules, so the country is important for that question.
If it is in the EU, and it has a CE marking, it is allowed (at least for switches, sockets/plugs are something else). But indeed, Europe is bigger then the EU.
Not completely true.
The common market have a lot of rules, but in some areas it is still not fully harmonized.
the EU has adopted harmonised rules that provide detailed technical requirements for certain types of products that make it mandatory for products to have the same technical specifications. However, in the majority of sectors (e.g. electronic and electric equipment, machinery, lifts, medical devices), EU legislation only lays down essential health, safety, and environmental protection requirements, thus leaving room for national requirements and procedures for aspects that are not covered by the harmonisation measures.
