I have an original works with nest integration working with my next thermostat, nest hello doorbell/camera, and 3 x nest protect environment alarms
I just sidegraded my HA instance from a supervised install on Ubuntu VM (which is not supported anymore) to a HASSOS VM.
I was lucky that I could copy over the credientials for WWN auth from my old HA instance storage to new and it all works…
But it got me thinking whether it is better to finally put WWN to bed and embrace the new google API integration. But I can’t find any good list of pros and cons (searching here). For sure there are some annoyances with WWN integration and I was hoping these are now resolved with the new API…
Is there any good and current post with a summary of pros/cons?
This is what I have been able to work out:
Pros:
Door bell now has an event
Cons:
No support for nest protect (I was hoping for even better support that would expose the presence sensors, thermometer, etc)
Thanks Jean. Thats an approach I didnt consider before.
Do you have any other nest devices via the google API?
Totally agree that google should add all the nest devices that are still actively sold to the API (and really those that are not, too).
I currently don’t have any device using the Google API. My other devices are all ZigBee, Z-Wave and Wifi. For example, I control my bedroom blinds with an Automate Pulse 2 hub that speaks to Home Assistant locally (no need to go through the cloud).
If you look through the legacy documentation at the very bottom of the page you can see some other services and features like away and home also that aren’t exposed.
