New HA Green doesn’t complete boot - this is the second unit!

I need help - desperately!

I just plugged in my second HA Green after returning the first one that never completed the boot process because of both getting stuck repeatedly with this error:

24-12-14 14:43:13 ERROR (MainThread) [supervisor.docker.interface] Can’t install ghcr.io/home-assistant/green-homeassistant:2024.12.3: 500 Server Error for http+docker://localhost/v1.43/images/create?tag=2024.12.3&fromImage=ghcr.io%2Fhome-assistant%2Fgreen-homeassistant&platform=linux%2Farm64: Internal Server Error (“Get “https://ghcr.io/v2/”: net/http: request canceled while waiting for connection (Client.Timeout exceeded while awaiting headers)”)

I am using 8.8.8.8 as the router DNS (I read where some ISP DNS’s cause problems) and turned off my second instance of HA running on my Synology NAS before starting the new hub so it couldn’t interfere.

I really need some help on this from this fantastic community - please!

Here is the complete log from the start of boot up until it gets stuck looking for ghcr.io:

I’m new here - I just plugged in my first HA green and I keep getting the same installation error as well ):

Sorry to hear that, but comforting to know that I am not the only one having this problem. Hopefully someone who understands this stuff better than me can jump in, analyze what is going wrong, and fix it.

This appears to be a bug in the installation process that only the manufacturer can resolve. Is there any recourse to contact the folks who developed the installation process at Nabu Casa?

Looks like that got out the door when 12.3 was live (it had install availability issues… And that LOOKS like what the log is saying - can’t pull image)

You probably need to lay a new current os on it outside of that process…

Go here:

For instructions on how to reset it with an SD card. Current HAOS builds are past 12.3 so it should get you past that.

After not succeeding with the boot out of the box, I tried doing an install from an SD on the previous unit but it never loaded properly. I used a new 32 GB SD. The rewrite never seemed to complete. Then I reformatted the SD and tried rewriting it with Etcher, then reload into HA Green. Same result - rewrite never seems to finish and the rapidly blinking yellow light never happened. When I pull the SD from Green, it goes right back to being stuck in the same loop.

I think these units have some sort of serious problem. Any help is much appreciated. I love HA, but need to migrate it from my Synology NAS so I can do more things with it.

With no real solutions being offered other than a suspicion by a few on the forum and some thoughts from Nabu Casa support, I plugged the Green directly into my modem, bypassing my Netgear router. The Green booted right up! I used the CLI to update the OS to the latest 14.1. Then migrated my Synology instance to the new Green. Finally.

I would recommend Nabu Casa figure out what it is about some network configurations that block access to all the components to build the startup version of their OS. Very frustrating, but I hope others having this problem can use this hack.

Thanks for the update! I’ll try this…I really hope it works for me!

Let me know how you do. I hope this is a good solution for all the folks who are struggling with this.
