I purchased the HA yellow kit with PoE and the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4
16GB / 2GB / No Wireless
I have assembled them as per the instructions. The CM 4 is seated correctly it clicks in nicely, it even had 4 screws to secure it which weren’t in the video I watched.
I loaded the USB and connected it to reg Ethernet and nothing happens, no LEDs light or anything.
I tried reassembling the CM 4 again and still nothing.
What could be wrong. What can I try now?
TIA
UPDATE I have discovered it is unlikely I have PoE at either my switch or router and I will require an injector.
Uh, that looks like one of those cheap ones who don’t negotiate properly according to PoE IEEE 802.3af. I think Yellow can handle it, but it’s not ideal.
Hard to say, because the Home Assistant Yellow specs are a bit confusing about it.
The specs refer to the PoE+ in the 802.3at-2009 version.
PoE+ in the 802.3at-2009 version have type 1 and 2 devices, which can draw power of 15.4W and 25.5W.
The switch you linked to can provide this.
The confusion is that the same specs also hint to type 3 and 4 devices, but these are first introduced in the 802.3bt-2018 version, and these devices can draw power of 51W and 71.3W.
The switch you linked to can NOT provide this.
I think you will have to get NabuCasa to clarify the specs before going further or go with a 802.3bt-2018 switch instead, which is also called PoE++.
