Something is wrong with this PC I installed Debian 11 on it this am and I cannot login into it. Previously I tried to run ifconfig from the cli and I got no response. I think a different PC is in order.
OS Reinstall
Last time Install Ubuntu networking was OFF and had to be enabled. I think this was some default.
Can you boot Linux from a USB stick right now?
I could boot from a USB and installed debian 11. But I couldn’t get logged in . I got the login but nothing else. Sigh
Coukd you attempt to enter password and got failed login or just not able to login?
Likely you may have wrong password or possible some weird keyboard problem
This is very vague. What do you mean “got the login”?
Did you use the Debian image with the non-free firmwares ? Could be there are no drivers for your Ethernet in the standard Debian image.
Ok so I got an IP with the Debian OS, I was able to ping th ebox running Debian. The issue I was having wa my monitor settings I think. I only got the Debian logo on my screen. I did get an IP and Angry IP scanner found the box. I got the MAC address For what that is worth. I reflashed with the URl : https://github.com/home-assistant/operating-system/releases/download/9.5/haos_generic-x86-64-9.5.img.xz I let it boot until I got to the CLI. Scanned the network again and no sign of the MAC on the network
Seems like the drivers for your Ethernet adapter are missing on HA OS. Not much you can do about that.
You could try a supervised install on Debian.
Bummer and just my luck. I’ll look into doing the supervised install.
Thanks
I am giving up on this PC. It installed Debian 11 without any errors. When it boots I get the usual verbose text showing it doing its thing. then I get a grey screen that does nothing. No login prompt just a blank screen. The mouse pointer is active. I wouldn’t care about locally logging in and not using a gui and ssh into it but that isn’t working either. I didn’t notice an option to enable that when it was installing.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
I Lied and didn’t give up. I used sdavides suggestion and did the supervised install. So far I just have a basic system. Now I need to figure out the mechanics of a backup from a HAOS based system to the new system I have now. Hopefully it isn’t to bad. Many thanks to all who offered assistance.
