New user here, need some advice!

Hi guys,
i’ve discovered home assistant recently and i want to give it a try for my home, so i’m planning to setup but i have a couple of questions. I don’t know if this is the right section of forum to ask, forgive me if it’s not…

I’ve a old pc that i don’t even use anymore (a sort of “frankestein” with remaining hardware of old configurations), so instead of buyng a pi i wish to install hass on that. It’s a i7 920 with 6gb ram so i think it’s overpowered for this, am i right? I’ve found a couple of tutorial about installation and configuration on a virtual machine, it’s worth or it’s better buying a rasperry? It’s a waste of power consuption?
I’ve two google home mini in my house, can i use that as speaker using the google assistant, right? Can i change the hotword for the assistant (the google one) with hass? I really hate to say “ok google”

Thanks in advance for the help and have a happy new year!

Just install a debian based distribution on it, and then follow the guide to install hassio on a generic linux.
It is not overpowered, but it uses more electricity than a Pi.
