New user registration temporarily disabled

Hey, friends! We’re seeing an influx of new accounts that appear to be bots. To halt this a little, I’ve turned off the ability to register a new account. We’re going to keep it locked up for the next 6 hours and turn it back on.

If you need assistance and cannot register for a new account, you are more than welcome to wait for the ability to be re-enabled or head over to our Discord server for some more immediate help.

Appreciate the understanding! I’ll update this/remove the pin once things are reverted.

Missy - Does the forum software have banned words/phrases or regex expressions? I reported three of these bot posts this morning, and two of them had easily-filterable wording that would have flagged them immediately…

We do! We enabled it for a couple that have been sneaking in, but word filtering can sometimes overtrigger. I wish there were more tools (in general) out there already to help with this stuff. /sigh

I also flagged a lot of them.
It seems they all was posted with a generic topic and body, but within the first minute they replaced the title and body.
I do not think it’s bots since I could see them type the second post in the topic.
If it was a bot then it would be a prewritten post that would just appear.

Make sure the filter is on when you edit a post also.
Because they first posted something then edited I would assume they did this because they have to do this to get around the filter

Yes, it’s slow though. The regex looks for phone numbers, it catches most of them, yall are just too fast at flagging and hit them first.

They do this annoying thing where they mark a solution which makes it so you can’t delete them… I have to remove the solution to delete them.
