Newbie: Can't connect to homeassistant installed in raspberry Pi 4B

Hello

I’m a new user of homeassistant.Just received my RB Pi 4B and flashed the lastest HA and plug it to my router. I checked the status of the HA installation with a HDMI screen and I can see the HA command line, the HA version (11.4) and the IP configurantion and server configuration.

When trying to connect with the HA assistant server by the different methods explained in the manual (homeassistant.local:8123/ or [homeassistant:8123] or 192.168.0.12:8123) and allways getting a “Can’t not connect to the web site error - The web homeasssistant.local rejected the connection” error.

I’m trying to connect with a computer connected directly to the same router, with the same IP range 192,168.0.19 and also tried to ping the HA server, getting the normal response.

Any idea why can’t I connect to the HA server?

Sorry, I think this post should be in installation rather than in configuration.

Could anybody move it?

Do you have device isolation enabled/turned on on your network(s)?

No, i don’t have any device isolation active. I didn’t configure any and just checked my router configuration and there is no mention. The WiFi is disconnected and both devices (RB 4b and my computer) are connected to the router by cable.

What happens if you telnet into the HA web port?

  1. If you are on Windows install the Telnet Client with dism /online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:TelnetClient.
  2. Open a Command Prompt and run telnet 192.168.0.12 8183

If you get a blank a screen or anything other than a connection error, HA is accessible at least at the network level.

Thanks for your tips. After trying everything I flashed HA OS again and now I can connect , at least with the ip address. The homeassistant.local is not working yet. any idea why?

That is a router DNS issue. It can’t resolve homeassistant.local to an IP. Could be a mcast issue.

Any other post or guide to follow? Thanks in advance.

Now that you can access it through IP, try changing the HA hostname and see you can resolve it then.

nslookup new_hostname

Ok, so after changing the hostname I should try with newhostname.local to access my home assistant?

Not necessarily. You can change it to anything, like simply “homeassistant”.
