Hi, I’ve seen many threads on how to setup HA to be able to use it with google assistant. Yesterday I successfully set up google assistant for HA using the HA tutorial.
I guess this is the easy part but, I’ve never really used GA so my question is, once my HA devices appear on home control part of GA, how I start to make voice actions to use them from Google assistant?.
Thanks in advance, I’m sorry if this is a bit of a stupid question.
If you’ve got a device called “light” in the “living room” you can say “Hey Google, turn on the living room light”. If you’ve got multiple lights, or switches with the word “light” in the name in the living room it’ll turn them all on.
For light devices you can also control the brightness, and coming with the next release there will be the ability to change the colour of lights.
Thanks Tinkerer!. As I’m trying automation, I’m starting bit by bit and apart from all my media devices (sonos, chromecast, Nvidia shield android tv, plex) and my nest thermostat, by now I have only automated a cover in my kitchen. Does this means I can also say ‘open and close’ kitchen covers without giving new voice actions for that?? That sounds great!! Can you confirm, open and close do work??
It doesn’t seem to work for ‘open and close’. However, if I try ‘turn off kitchen cover’ it says something like ‘that mode is unavailable for kitchen cover 1’. Other response is ‘I’m sorry, there was an error and I’m unable to control your home device.’
Cover support in the current release is limited - they are treated like lights, which means they should respond to on/off to open/close and brightness to set position. This also means that if you tell google to turn on or off all your lights, the covers will also react, which may not be what you want…
Just in case it helps someone else, it was not working for me, even with turning on/off and brightness commands to set position. So, I have reduced the ‘exposed domain’ only to the only useful one I have now: ‘cover’ and now with less devices it is working fine for opening and closing my cover with turn on/off and adjusting position with brightness as marthocoo told me . SO now, I’m a happy camper, I just wish I had more devices to try out. This is really awesome and I’m loving it.
