Newbie question: Add family members as persons or users?

How do I actually add my family to Home Assistant? Should I add them as persons or users? I am not sure when to use one or the other, the docs left me a bit confused…

Go to settings people and add them there.

Generally, you want to to add them as People/Persons. If you enable the “Allow Login” option when setting up the Person it will also create a User so that person can log into your HA instance.

I think a person is used where you want to track a person’s location. A user is someone who can log into Home Assistant. A person and a user may be linked where they are the same individual.
