NFC tags and iPad Mini

So, while I’ve seen the list of iPhone versions which support first NFC tags at all, and then which support background tag reading, I haven’t been able to find out what the status is of iPad Mini support for NFC tags and HA with or without background tag reading.

Anyone have the details?

Which version?

The iPad mini 5, 4 and 3 have an NFC chip but no antenna. So that’s a no for them.

Why have a chip and no antenna?

It’s because the chip is also used for in app purchases.

And 5’s the current version, I believe. Sigh.

Guess I’ll just have to hope the 6 adds the antenna.
