NFC Tags with Andriod Watch

I just started experimenting with NFC Tags… What a great compliment to HA.
I’m an Android guy with an Android SmartWatch. (TickWatch Pro) which supports NFC Tags.
I can get my toggle light automation to fire using my Galaxy S8 phone NFC Reader (I will get more creative as I go).
How can I make my Android SmartWatch fire the NFC Automation?

Try removing the device_id from the automation (but save it elsewhere).

Thanks Dolores,
What did you mean by “save it elsewhere”?

This is the YAML for my Automation Trigger

platform: event
event_type: tag_scanned
event_data:
  tag_id: 082258de-da0c-4baa-960b-6e5ccbaaf31d

Sorry, I speak about that which I do not know, and unclearly… I meant save the device_id somewhere e.g. in a text file on your computer, in case I’m wrong and you need it.

My automations that I created with a tag have a device_id as well. I wasn’t sure if that is associated with the reader and thus needs to be blank when you scan from multiple devices.

@Stavros did you make it work ? I’m looking for the same feature as you : scan an NFC tag with my smartwatch to trigger an event in ha.

Does the watch run the HA Client?

With your phone, it’s the HA Client that’s detecting the tag and making the automation run, the watch may detect the tag, but doesn’t know what to do with it…

There is an Android App on the Play Store called Ariela
It has a Wear OS app which allows you to manage some functions of HA via your SmartWatch.
They were supposed to be working on that feature but, I haven’t seen it yet

never in my HA time have I not been able to do something I wanted to do and there not be anyone or others to have already implemented it… this… just… blows… my… mind…

well maybe one day I can trigger a tag in HA with a smart watch
