I can’t find any directions for illustrator.
I don’t think there is anything inherently special about the SVG. You just have to give the devices you want state/control of an ID that matches sensors/switches/lights etc.
I use inkscape and it’s pretty straight forward.
Inkscape is free and open source and can save files as svg. There are extensive tutorials for Inkscape in Full Circle Magazine. The tutorials are for the Ubuntu version, but should work well no matter what OS you are using.
think I figured it out. just name the layer whatever ID you would set in inkscape. for instance I named a layer light.bedroom in illustrator.
illustrator is just so much better than inkscape in every way. I’m surprised nobody is using it. edit: except monetarily, inkscape wins there
I agree, AI is better but costly. One thing I cannot figure out with it is when using non system fonts they don’t render correctly on the device if created in AI, but they do if done in Inkscape. The usual fix for this would be to expand the paths of the text but this confuses floorpan.
While it may be better, the majority of everyone here doesn’t use it on a regular basis nor do they feel the need to purchase it for one singular purpose.
My wife has it and uses it. I had her make the floorplan for me and give me the svg, then I loaded it up in inkscape and modified it for home assistant
