No bootable device on NUC

Hi, i’m trying to do a clean install on a NUC 5y3iryh on an internal m.2 Sata SSD.

  • Used ubuntu live to Etch the image onto the internal drive.
  • UEFI boot sees the boot device in the BIOS, secure boot and legacy boot disabled
  • BIOS updated to latest version to rule out issues.
  • Checked efibootmgr, deleted an old windows boot manager.

Still, whenever i boot up i get the message that no bootable device has been found.
What am i doing wrong, i’ve installed HA on another nuc years ago with the specific NUC image that was available back then, but this one is for a family member, and i can’t get it to boot somehow.

Most likely your USB drive is not bootable. Try another bootable disk u know it works and see if you can boot.

I’m installing it to the internal harddrive of the nuc. The usb drive is a live Ubuntu stick which i use with balena etcher to write the image

The issue has been solved, the problem wasn’t the drive, tested it in a different PC, and booted HAOS just fine.
Looks like some freak bug in the NUC Bios. Flashed another SSD, same issue… until i added the old SSD through USB > SATA adapter, and used F10 to get the startup menu. Selected the internal SSD, and booted up just fine.

For older NUC systems, there are often newer BIOSes available.
Always suggest updating the BIOS before installing ANY os.
