But you’re not keeping a backup. Docker containers are ephemeral. You aren’t supposed to keep them around after you have updated the image. The only thing you are doing is adding complexity to save 3 minutes of downloading a new tagged version.
This isn’t a backup, it’s a waste of time.
Fair enough. But this is sort of a tangent. I’m trying to figure out why I am getting the error in the HA update…
Delete your old container. 
this is dead simple if you have portainer running.
Just need to simply re deploy the container and replace the existing one. I’ll pick up the latest image automatically with all the same settings.
