No web/ssh interface for 'no reason'

So I came home and my hass.io instance didn’t seem to be running anymore. I did not update the system recently and it was running for around a year now (I did update about 3 weeks ago but everything was smooth sailing till today, or is there an auto update since a while?).

The SD-card still mounts on my mac (the fat partition it shows around 4-5 other partitions, ext? can’t seem to mount them eventhough I have extensions for linux partitions). I see the green led blinking and stuff, the power adapter has been faithfull since the creation of my Hassio automated home (3A hardly any red light blinks but that has been the case for the entirety of the automation of my house).

SSH-ing with ssh root@ip -p 22222 gives me " Permission denied (publickey)" (22 has no influence) and the web interface is dead as hell.

It seems I have no way to debug nor to recover my backup (though it’s a bit old). I do have all my Yaml files locally but guess it won’t be complete with only these files.

Any tips to get me going again? I’m only able to use my living room lights since they’re KAKU and I still have an original switch as a backup haha

There is no auto updating.

I assume you setup this port number for SSH with Hassio? Are you using the community add-on? If so did you specify a different user for SSH?

You can recover the majority of your setup with just the config files. You may need to reconfigure some items that require additional configuration after HA starts but the config files are the main think you need. I have moved platforms many times by just transferring the config files.

I would maybe look into your SD card health. A number of people have reported issues that are due to a failing SD card.

What about the supervisor?

Yeah I used the plugin for hassio, 22222 is the only one not giving me a ‘connection refused’ so it seems it’s the default one? tried both pi, root and my username

and the supervisor? Oh right now I have no USB keyboard and no secondary monitor (apart from my laptop, but can hook it up to my tv) hmmm

I don’t think so, however, I will tell you in a few hours. It appears 139 is out and I am on 138. My system should make the check in the next few hours for new versions and I will see if it updates.

I just meant that there are auto updates, the supervisor does. And it frequently breaks things which is a PITA if you are away from the system for any length of time. We should have control over this.

Interesting. Looks like I should block the site it uses for version checks then. (https://s3.amazonaws.com/hassio-version/stable.json)

Note that this will also block checks for HomeAssistant updates.

That could be worth implementing in my router. Just for times I’m away at places where I have no remote access to HA.

Do you guys recon that connecting it to the tv (and buying a usb keyboard) will help me out? For instance could I access the log since it seems to have some form of booting (lights on the pcb blink go on/off etc etc)

If it were me I would just start from scratch. If you have a the config files (up to date ones) you should be up and running pretty quickly.

Do you have a spare sd card? I try not to over write my drives until I have the new system fully up and running.

Are you using discovery?

Well, I went to check if the check had been made yet and before I even got there I noticed I am on 139 now.

Sorry for the misinformation, I never noticed this updating as it happens quietly in the background.

Looks like I have some blocking to do.
