NOISY Argon one v2 on Rpi4

Hey all,
First of all, big shout out to https://github.com/adamoutler/HassOSArgonOneAddon for the awesome addon.

I got my Rpi4 + Argon one V2 case running HA mostly for Adguard as DNS and DHCP (HA have nice UI and easier to manage things like backup and etc) for months.

HOWEVER, the fan is one hell of a pain in the hmmm NOISY!

Even with Quiet profile set to true, the noise just make no different from level 1 to level 3 - equally irritating.

With that annoyingly loud buzzing sound in background every now and then really driving me MADDDD. Especially working from home where deep focus required.

I tried to turn off the fan, BUT Without the fan, the pi is 50 degree Celsius ON IDLE … I’m in Singapore so the usual ambient temperature is 30± degree Celsius.

So, I’m planning to actually replace the 30mm fan to something quieter like say Noctua but Noctua’s smallest fan is 40mm…

Anyone have any idea what quieter fan I can get to replace it? Or anyone have some experience in replacing the NOISY ARSE fan? Or any, just any great awesome idea I can make this noisy fan go away?Or should I just once and for all change it to Geeekpi Ice tower instead?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Kav,

Was this ever resolved? Mine is really noisy as well. It just started after about 6 months of use. I took it apart and cleaned out any dust that I saw but it is still making the noise.

I have the Ice tower but liked the Argon One because it was less clutter on the desk.

Thanks!

Hey Dhollon,

Unfortunately no :worried: I ended up just continue to use Argon Instead of buying a new Ice Tower

Now I put my Pi 4 far far away from me and let it connect to WiFi.

Still pisses me off when I hear the fan constant humming sound. But I can’t find much useful stuffs to get the fan replaced to something more quiet.

This was an extremely annoying issue. The case is super affordable and there has to be cost cutting somewhere to make that price point, so they used a junk fan.

However, I was able to get the fan dead quiet.

I peeled the sticker off of the fan, put a drop of lubricating oil in one of the three holes, then sprayed ithat same hole with Nu-Trol 401B (deoxit would probably work just as well).

Spraying the Nu-Trol dispersed that drop of oil and the spray also works as a type of lubricant.

The fan is now silent and running faster… I’m getting lower temps after this procedure.

That’s actually is a good idea… I might try this out during downtime when I clean the fan!

I do have some WD40 on hand so let’s see will it work on me!

Thanks for sharing!
