Hello Wonderful Community,
First of all, thank you for your help! I understand this community is comprised of volunteers. I understand that work as I previously did the same for ClarkConnect, Gentoo, and various tech related subreddits.
I am just starting to look into Smart Home Stuff. I have kept my eye on HASS for a long time. I am experienced with Linux/Windows/Mac management and designing networks, infra, workflows, etc. I am very unfamiliar with Z-Wave, Zigbee, Matter/Threads, etc. So I came here to ask for some help. I did try to search the forum, but perhaps my search-fu is weak.
I will be hosting HASS locally on a server that is already in service at my home. I am wanting to get a USB dongle for Z-Wave and am looking for a Z-Wave Deadlock that can do the following;
- Physical key
- NFC key on phones (apple/android)
- No cloud account/service required, save for HASS
- Not the color Black (prefer brushed nickel)
Zigbee would work as well I suppose, but it seems that residential is better supported with Z-Wave. I may be way off on this point. Correct me please.
Ideally I would love for the Deadbolt Lock to act the way my Tesla does, except require the phone to be unlocked. I walk up to it with my phone (unlocked) and the door unlocks. I am sure the Tesla is using it’s network connection in the car to facilitate this, but the car can also be unlocked with a phone key regardless if the phone has a network connection. So if I need to, tapping the phone to the lock would be acceptable.
I suppose a starting point is finding the hardware that has a NFC reader built-in. I have not been able to find one that is strictly Z-Wave.
If anyone can help me I would be very appreciative.
Thanks again!
